      The long-awaited construction of the National WWII Memorial kicked off on Aug. 27, 2001. This site is not a true online complement to the memorial, but it does have a lot of information on the politics and process of the creation of the monument.

      Civil War

      A gallery of scans of Civil War-related prints from the famous Currier & Ives, including Lincoln, Grant, land battles, sea battles, and more. These are especially interesting because they were made at the time of the war and shortly after, clearly by Northerners. Images are free for use as clip art, and some are for sale as art prints.
